That's why i was asking. had not realised it was likely to be mobiles.
Erm.......... it's not I think.
NTL didn't do mobiles either. Back then I think we are talking about Cable TV/broadband/landline.
Still no CCA to request though.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Well that's where I am a real luddite - no square things in my house.
Use the comp at work or in the library but the old B&W died when i moved house and I never replaced it. Ex and I never had one either, and there are only about two programmes a week I want to watch. Just use i-thing on BBC to view those. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
any one know what the best course of action is to take, i don't want to pay a bill that i was told didn't exist any longer 4 years ago0

Thanks for the replies. As there seems to be some confusion, let me clarify:
I took out a 12 month contract with Telewest (now VirginMedia I believe) for broadband, telephone (landline) and cable TV.
When I moved to a new flat after 6 months, I wanted to take it with me, and on checking, was told that my new road was covered. However, when I moved in, I discovered that for some reason my flat wasn't covered. I had a number of debates on the phone with the company.
I still have a letter dated 24/10/05 requesting the transfer of services as discussed on the phone. I also have a follow up letter dated 06/12/05 requesting the transfer again, following a letter demanding £201 for cancelling the service - which at no point did I do. I gave them a number to call me on to sort it out, and as far as I remember this then resulted in them arranging to come and collect the digibox and never turning up.
To now receive a letter more than 2 years later at a new address from a debt collection agency seems unfair and harsh. I have no letters from Telewest - just vague memories of conversations and the letters I sent to them. So how can they suddenly demand money from me in this threatening way?In Progress!!!0 -
i feel exactly the same i haven't got £130 to just throw away and supply an a big company extra money (or free money) for something that was settled as far as i am aware 4 years ago
anyone know of the steps now i should take???0 -
i contacted TSC and informed them that as of yet i still haven't received these bills. they said they will put a note on the system that i chased and told me that i just needed to wait now, they said that they now need to wait to virgin to contact them with whether to proceed or to close down account. but he said that the statements/bills etc can take 6 or so weeks.
so the stage im at now is to just wait and see if someone contacts me in regards to this case. hopefully not:-)
but if they do and still cannot provide proof then surely i am in my rights to not pay a penny??Have they clarified when or what address you owe the money from? Are you aware of any possiblity of owing it?
the address virgin gave originally was the old address i used to live at when i had NTL. the problem i have is that there was a dispute originally after we cancelled etc as we kept on receiving mail, but after many many phone calls we eventually got it sorted out, and we stopped receiving post from them saying we owed money. but when i spoke to virgin they said they had no record of any phone call 4 years ago and that i owed the money.
TSC advised me now not to contact virgin directly but to just wait to hear from TSC direct and they will inform me if virgin still wish to proceed or if they just close the account down.0 -
hi i am in a similar position, having just tried to move from sky to virgin media, having ordered the box only to find it cancelled (after they had taken my £75 for box) and they say I owe on an old account, which I dispute as far as I have never been with virgin before, i was telewest but am all paid up with them!any one know what the best course of action is to take, i don't want to pay a bill that i was told didn't exist any longer 4 years ago
my question, is if they do not fall under the CCA what are my rights as far as needing proof of this debt. if i owe it fair enough i will pay, but i am by far convinced as far as i am aware all debts were paid so to speak!0
