Transfer Balance To Husband's Card

in Credit cards
Hi all
My husband wants to make a large purchase this week (approx £3k) on a credit card.
He doesn't currently have any cc's (or debts), so is going to put it onto my Egg card and transfer the balance when his new card comes through.
He is going to apply for the Virgin one at 0% int on balance transfers for 15months.
Can balances be transferred from one person's name to another? I don't want to be left with this balance on my card and don't really want another card in my name to transfer the balance....
Apologies if this is a dumb question - thanks in advance!

yes, usually balances can be transferrred between cards in different names... in general they only need a 16 digit card number.
however, if your OH doesn't currently have a CC then its unlikely that he will get a 0% BT card as they usually require a proven history of handling CC well. (i.e. a least one CC already and an excellent credit record).
So think about it before spending that money.0 -
Apply for the 0% card first of all, to see if he is going to be accepted. If not maybe a low interest card would be better or one of those cashback or purchase CC's would then be an option.
Also he might not get the full £3K he needs.
So the first thing would be to sort out the credit card. Be warned this could take up to a month depending on company. Then once you know what he can have do the spending accordingly.
There is a credit crunch going on so dont be caught out if you cannot get all of the credit.0 -
Forgot to mention Sky likes to keep the balance at £0 for up to 3 months just in case you "bought" something. I went through it with them end of last year and they mightily annoyed me big time. Because they could clearly tell I never used the card for any purchases and it never even got activated. But they just follow "procedure".0

Thanks UK007Bulldog and CLAPTON
Yes, I did consider the fact that he may not be given a high enough limit to cover the balance (or a card at all), anyhow Good News!
He applied for a Virgin card this morning, put in my card number and the amount to be transferred, they accepted him and gave him £7k limit! (Possibly cos I've had a Virgin card and paid it off on time??)
Now my only concern is that they will attempt to "transfer" the balance before we make the purchase - which should be within the week....
Thanks for your replies - much appreciated

with virgin you can BT from your current account... i.e. the money is simply paid into your current a/c and then you just spend from there.
if you BT from a CC with no balance , some will bounce the BT back...0 -

Ah yes - forgot about that one... Perhaps he'd be better getting the cash paid into his account, then pay off the card that way. They said the card would be with him in 7-10 days - would the balance already have been transferred?0
