Recently upgraded to a LG 42LY95 42" LCD Full HD Screen & didn't want to pay £400 for a Blu Ray Player.
I was in PC World today, (OH was shoe shopping as our local Lilly & Skinner is closing down) & I spotted a Samsung BD-P1000 for £149.97 which is a cracking deal even though is not the newest player.
Checked the online prices & PC world are the cheapest by far (Some retailer still charging £900) & its the cheapest Blu Ray Player I can find on the market.
Strangely the website is showing Out of Stock

That's a good price for a blu-ray player (very good).
However it might be worth noting that as it's an older model it probably will not support the newer BD features (picture in picture for things like before/after special effects in "making of" extras on future disks etc).
But as a player it's a very good price.0 -
I have read that is was one of the first Blu Ray players on the UK Market back in 20060

I think its best to just get the PS3, its only £250 at most plus its a gaming experience like never before.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -
I think Blu-ray is great but do you really need it now?? In no time these will be down to DVD prices. The prices for the players at the moment are somewhat inflated don't you think?0

Doesn't the .97 price tag mean it's discontinued?0

Wells, it sold out now anyway.0

The OP saw it in store and said it's sold-out on-line.
Happen to agree with Boatman that paying a premium for such hardware is not worthwhile. Expect the BD format to drop in price now that the HD DVD format is dead... so many more manufacturers will start producing this format therefore driving the price down to commoditise it to the same level as DVD over the next few years (and this will also be when innovations will appear more quickly as these same manufacturers try to get an edge over their rivals).
Give it five years tops and they'll be going sub-£50 in Lidl & Aldi! The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

Spend a bit more get a PS3, you may never play the games but it will soon have an upscaling Freeview add on, the Blu Ray drive will have regular software upgrades and you will be able to record TV to the hard drive.
It's a no brainer.0 -

Why would removing the competition cause a price drop?? Lack of competition usually results in higher prices.0
