It may be worth looking into your water boards vulnerable household scheme. It would depend on your medical condition and household make-up as to whether you qualify, but if you do, it should knock your bill down by a bit at least.
My board (Severn Trent) cap the bill at about £250 pa on the scheme.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
thanks one and all for the input. I will certainly look at the points raised but on the mortgage insurance thing it's personal life insurance but at a level that would pay off the mortg if one of us passed on. It's also loaded because I have high blood pressure and am overweight ( reducing due to lack of food lol ) the food bill of £85 is correct, by goodness knows how i do it but it's right as that's all I have each month. A lot of home made stews, soups, breads etc using every scrap of food such as a chicken for the main meal, then maybe a curry and then sandwiches with the pickings with mayo. Bones boiled to make stock etc. The milk tip by one on here works also. The third person is our son, a uni student who only comes home at the weekend but ravages the fridge whilst having his washing done. We have looked at an interest only mortg and we could get £50k more (which would pay off the debts) for the same as we are paying now for the repayment. Trouble is we are near sub prime so best rate would be 7.14 fixed for 2 years at £815 pcm. Quick calc like for like moving mortg to fixed rate intrest only would cost about £642..... saving a £100 pcm but the debts are still there. Also I agree that suicide is NOT the solution. after all that would deny me my little pleasures in life of being a man and winding up my wife by virtue of my gender.......
Seriously though, thanks one and all and i'll check out the sugestions and let you know later in the week.

You say your debt repayments are £400 pcm but Payplan/CCCS won't help because you don't have enough income. Would trying to do your own debt management plan be an option - ie write to all your creditors explaining that you are in difficulty and offering a reduced amount? If you did that and changed your mortgage to interest only, that might give you a bit of breathing space.
£86 is a lot for life insurance, even loaded against you - have you shopped around at all?0 -
in your signature you refer to £161k of debt - is that including your mortgage? If so, just the figure itself could be getting you down and I would suggest you change it if you can to refer to non-mortgage debt.
and get your son out of the fridge, the greedy ripper!0 -
update,
Sorry folks not done much as i said I would, been on morphine injections for 3 days.... boy it's great at the time, nurses float by with no legs and fluffy white clouds and bonny rainbows can be seen but the come down is dodgy and the pain soon returns all be it a bit milder, lol.
Anyway the one thing i have done is hassle a virgin.... read on it's not rude............
.... we are on virgin media for everything bar the mobile. We were on the VIP package up until 2 weeks ago when we decided to cut it if we could to save some money. We did this by chopping the movies, sports and downsizing from VIP to large tv but small everything else for a cost of £62.95 a month.
Anyway, checked out Sky and a comparable package but with the sky sports and movies would only be £45 plus we would have to have a BT line at £11 a month totaling £56pcm.
So I gets onto virgin and tells them that i am thinking of moving to sky for the better package / price. Also that I didn't really want to as it's owned by rupert murdoc and also the fact that they took sky one off virgin etc but I am in trouble with money so I need to sort it out. What could you ( virgin) do to keep me.
They gave me the VIP package for £53 pcm.......This saves me £10 on my cut down price and a whopping £32 on the VIP price. I get XL tv, xl broadband, free phone calls, virgin +box and a second standard box for upstairs and sky sports 1,2,3,4 but not the movies...... and a happy little bunny of a wife who is an anorak for football....
... go on hassle a virgin tonight.....
