how long for a new account ?

i am trying to set up a bank account before i start my DMP i applied online nearly 3 weeks ago i got a letter asking me to go to a local branch to sign (this is for a current account )i know i could open a basic account but i really would like a current account whilst i can before my credit rating goes bad .I wondered in everyone elses experience how long did it take you after you applied online for the bank account to be up and running .I feel like it is taking forever and i do not want to start the DMP until i have a new account as i owe most of my money to my own bank which is Lloyds .
