Planning an 80s themed party - going to be a fancy dress with music from the decade.
Thinking about having bowls of retro sweets scattered about and doing a rubics cube cake, but can't think of other food to do! pineapple and cheese on sticks is about as far as I got before my brain froze! Also, what about decor? Any ideas that people have or if you've had an 80s themed party before and can share what you did (and pics!) would be really grateful

twiglets, cheese footballs, you could go for prawn cocktail in cos leaves, mini trifles / blackforest gateaus / death by chocolate.
I'll have a think and come back if I can come up with more.0 -

someone once bought me a "Throw your own 80's party night" kit! This is the best of what it had to offer -
Men should come dressed as yuppies (dont forget the red braces) or New Romantics
Women should come as Sloane Rangers or Essex girls, complete with leg warmers, white stillettos and white handbag to dance around!!!
Music should include as much Stock, Aitken and Waterman as you can bear!!
Food - the main fad of the eighties was nouvelle cuisine! but any cheesy party food should be fine. Drink - cocktails in the brightest colour you can get complete with umbrellas, cherries and sparklers, designer label lager, could you get a Sodastream??!!! lol :rotfl:
However, the best thing that came with this kit was a "Pin the Mobile on the Yuppie game"!!!!! you just need to find a picture of a suitable yuppie, find a pic of a really naff brick of a phone and there you have it!!!
Another game you can do is called The Brace Race. Find random objects in your house, it can be anything like fruit and veg, a cushion, tin cans, an inflated balloon, a matchbox, make sure they are varied and differing sizes. Then you have a minute to stuff as many of the objects behind the braces of the wearer as you can. At the end of the minute, the person wearing the braces has to turn around 3 times, anything that falls out cant be counted. Then add up the totals and the winner is the one with the most stuff behind the braces.
You could also get something like an Atari? and trivial pursuit is an absolute must! Or you could go on the internet and download some classic 80's tv themes and get people to guess what they are??You're so very special, I wish I was special :dance:0 -
Some good ideas there - thanks! Can't wait for this party!- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I vividly remember arctic roll being a fave of mine in the eighties.
and how about a swing ball in the garden? and a big ghetto blaster.
however, as an essex girl who grew up in the eighties i can let you know the legwarmers weren't really worn with stilettos...more with jazz shoes lol
stillettos were purely kept for the snow wash drainpipe jeans or mini skirts on a night out with the southend cruiser boys. *oh the shame*Last bet : 26th Oct 2006:j Debt free 25th Feb 2008:j Living "my" dream:T0 -
Don't forget the Frankie Says Relax t-shirts.
And the day glo leg warmers and I seem to recall some day glo stilletoes.
Also the stonewashed denim, and candy/pastel coloured canvas boots.
Oh and the jelly shoes and bags, with big chunky bright coloured jewellery.0 -
Nah - the clothes had to be totally colour co-ordinated. Vague memories of tube skirts worn with long shirts, chunky belts, plastic earings, plastic bangles and bracelets.
Food wise, what about ritz crackers with a swirl of primula cheese and a pickled onion on top ! Yummy !So little money - so much time :mad:0 -
A friend of ours who had a fantastic 80s party covered one wall of his lounge with old singels and LP covers. People spent hours looking at it....0

You could do guess the intro, with 80s songs and guess the 80s programme if you can get them off the net and put them onto disk.
See if you could get hold of some posters from old magazines or catalogues, God knows where you could get them from though, maybe charity shops/a car boot sale, or even e-Bay, then you could decorate the walls with the posters.
If you have a Playstation 2 or 3, you could play Singstar 80s
For drinks, you could make some kind of cocktail/punch and name it 'Club Tropicana' (Wham song), complete with umbrellas and cherrys on cocktail sticks.
You could have break dancing and body popping competitions.
You could play charades (80s songs, programmes or films)
I'm loving the idea of the Rubiks cube cake, that sounds ace!!
You could get some 'screwballs', you know the ice cream in the plastic cone with the bubble gum in the bottom? They sell these in Iceland and I think they are 4 or 6 for £1.
You could be silly, grab a heap of hairspray and have a competition to see who can get the biggest backcombed boufant! :rotfl: :rotfl:
Food ~ cheese & pineapple you've already mentioned, or there is cheese & pickled onions on cocktail sticks, quiche, vol au vants, cocktail sausages, pizza, and for afters, arctic roll lol
P.S. Can I come to your party? I'm an 80s throwback, I guess my avatar and user name gives it away a little!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0
