help please

hi i am asking on behalf of a friend her husband is going to be made redundant he is 61 and my friend is 61 they have a son who lives with them who earns around £200 a week, my friend and her husband think they can claim pension credits as the online calculator said they could get up to £180 per week but it said that they might not get this as there son lives with them does any one know how much there son would have to contribute to there house hold rent ect there rent is about £60 a week and there council tax is about £8 a week , also will they get any pension credits as the son lives with them if so ruffly how much. thanks Diane

    For housing benefit and council tax benefit the son's income will be taken into account, so he may need to be ready to chip in a bit more than that in future.

    Bloody hell. Makes a change to see someone still living at home contributing a decent amount.:o Was half expecting it to be £10-£20 or nothing at all.

    Yes, I wasn't saying it was too low a figure, just that as he's an adult part of the household, everyone needs to know what the financial score is and what's needed. THEN you can start working out where it's to come from.

    Age Concern will probably know about Pension Credit, but the best advice is usually to apply and see how you get on!
