dvd player wont play dvd's

I have a centurian portable dvd player that has stopped playing DVD format disks. It will play CD and VCD.

possibly some dust on the laser, my daughter has a top loading dvd and if it gets a speck of dust on the laser it will not work,cleaning disks are available.What goes around - comes around
