Please can someone advise???
7 years ago I had a car on credit, gave the car back but still owed money. I defaulted on this and recieved the odd letter but haven't heard anything from them in 7 years.
Out of the blue, I had a letter from a recovery company asking me to call them about the debt.
They have never register a CCJ against me.
I understood that after 6 years the debt was written off. Can they still get me to pay after all these years??

It is not written off, but it will probably be "Statute Barred" under the Limitation Act 1980.
That means they can ask nicely for payment, but they can't take any action against you.
Have a read through the factsheet linked to below.

There is a letter at the end of the information to send if you think the debt is indeed "Statute Barred".

I was under the impression that a default was cleared after 6 years but you are still liable for the money you owe.
I neednt ask if you are going to pay the money you owe?0
