Right we have been in touch with both cccs & national debt helpline and both have asked us to send letters out to creditors that we can not afford payments or to declare ourselves bankrupt! the thing is we cant even afford to declare ourselves bankrupt!
i really have no idea how to go on about this, and beleive me if i didnt have my two special princesses i would seriously consider ending it here. I am seriously depressed. My partner has just lost his job and this is why cccs have told us they are unable to help us.
do you think we should write to creditors asking to wipe off our debt? and do you think they actually would??
i feel so embarrassed that we have actually ended up in this situation and angry that many people will happly give you credit and get into debt but no one wants to help you get out!
can someone please give me advice

Hi sam,
1. Don't panic, anything can be sorted!
2. Don't panic!!
Why don't you do three things;
1. Write to all your creditors and explain that you are temporarily in difficulties but will be paying a token payment of £1 per month for the next say 6 months. This way you are showing them that you are trying to sort the situation. Pay the £1 per month to each of them even if they write back and get shirty. Make sure you also tell each creditor in the letter that you only wish to communicate in writing.
2. Get together a statement of all your incomings and outgoings and see if there is anywhere you can cut back for the time being.
3. Help hubby and yourself to maximise you income any way you can, ie help with job searches, check on www.entitledto.com that you are getting all benefits you are entitled to, e-bay anything not bolted down.
For what it's worth, i was made redundent a while ago and at the time it was horrid but i've got a job i love now and everything is coming together. I'm sure you and your lovely family will all be fine.Total debt at LB Moment (Nov 2007) = £6583 £4649 20.03.09

Hi Sam,
Sorry things are so bad for you at the moment - you're in the right place though. Prepare to be bombarded with advice and support!:D
Firstly, don't panic (I know, I know...easier said than done right?)
Then I would write to all your creditors telling them you are unable to make any payments at the moment as your husband is out of work but you will reassess the situation in 3 months. Pay a token £1 each month to show willing.
The only exceptions to this are your mortgage and council tax which HAVE to be your top priority.
The most important thing I've learnt on my DF quest is to communicate with your creditors and pay something every month. If you ignore things they just get worse.
There'll be others along with with loads more practical help for you soon - you're head will be spinning!
Everyone will ask if you can post an SOA (Statement of Affairs) so they can see the whole picture.
Things will seem a whole lot better soon, I promise.

You need to take time to decide what is best for you in the longterm. Some days it feels like the whole world is against you, but it does get better.Barclaycard 3800
