debt arrangement scheme (scotland)

I have been on my dmp with cccs for a year and did my review today. They mentioned that I may be eligible for the DAS and were going to send info as they do not do the scheme. Has anyone done it? I would like to hear from you if you have. It can stop interest and prevent creditors from taking you to court if you stick to it.

  • Hi there, I am now entering my third month of paying my DAS repayment of 540 pounds a month. This is not a quick fix to your debt, i will be paying this for approx 8 years, mind you i was in about 55 000 pounds worth of debt , the beauty of this scheme is that it does halt interest on your debt providing you keep to the repayment schedule. If you have asset's ie house etc, it is a much safer option than going down the protected trust deed route. So far it has been fairly easy to manage, I started by going to my local C.A.B in Dumbarton and getting them to help but you can also bizarrely enough contact your TRADING STANDARDS OFFICE where you are and ask them for help. The person who sets it up for you is a financial manager(? something like that) in Trading standards. They are very good and will give you the best advice and wonderfully its FREE , it costs you nothing extra and when you are in the level of debt that I was this is a great thing. The support so far has been great , you still get threatening letters occassionally normally from the companies who dont seem to know what the D.A.S is but they fall away quite sharply once the payments start going through to them. Also on the plus side with scheme is that once you are on it the creditors should deal with your case officer and not you direct, if they continue to contact you or threaten you they can be threatened legally by the Trading standards office. You end up being protected by the Harrassment of Debtors act or something similar. All in all I would recomend finding out about the Debt Arrangement Scheme, do it sooner rather than later , the sooner you're on it the quicker the interest and debts get frozen, .... I started talking to them at the end of Oct 2007 It got sorted by the middle of December ... about 6 weeks then another 4 weeks till i started paying off my debt The sooner you start ... well you know the rest :D
