Wii (FIT) fitness now WHERE TO FIND (UPDATED 27/4)

  • I can confirm that Smyths in Merton have some in stock - they have a large display up and I saw three behind the counter - probably because that's all they can fit under there, I suspect they have more.

They sell the Wii Fit pack with a Wii Console (plus Sports) for £229.99 (apparently saving £19.99 against their regular prices). The saving was advertised in their store so I have no reason to believe it won't be the same elsewhere, but I couldn't see it advertised on their website. If you are visiting them and don't know Merton, watch out for the location if you use a GPS - you won't be able to get to it exactly and their map isn't 100% accurate. Instead program yourself to enter the top of Bond Road just off Western Road as that's the only entrance. If like me you miss the entrance just follow the one-way system round and take the first left after the lights, follow the road down past the industrial estate, and you'll see the entrance on the left just before you reach the end of the road.

They also gave me £10 in vouchers when I made the purchase, for use off games or accessories so I was able to use one £5 voucher against an extra controller (£29.99 normally). You can sign up for their loyalty card there for £3 but you won't get the 10% straight away, they told me you have to wait four days (I assume for them to register the card).

Incidentally Tesco at Raynes Park were advertising the Wii Fit pack for £64.71, I don't know if they had stock left but they certainly had it on prominent display.
  • Is there any chance of buying one today in the Cardiff area?

I picked one up at my local Tesco at 00:01, my father managed to buy one an hour ago at the local comet. They are still around, in-fact they are not selling for high prices on ebay right now. I'm sure this will quickly change when word gets around how damn good them are! :D

Its so coool! A couple of things I found last night...

Its worth setting up the Wii Fit Channel to the Wii Menu (think it was in the User Settings menu, top right on main menu screen) as your friends etc can then have a quick blast by selecting the Trial mode from the Wii Fit Channel.

Also on the Main Menu (p20 of the manual) clicking on your Mii is a hoot. And on the Starting Training Session screen (page 24) where Piggy is showing, try clicking on the WiiFit board (seen in the distance).

Finally pages 26 and 27 of the manual has the Wiffity Island Jogging Map!

    Enjoy!

UPDATE: Just found the story behind the WiiFit board hidden game...

"Exactly. I knew by then that ordinary bathroom scales couldn’t offer us anything more than they already did, so I spent a lot of time just thinking about what would make an accessory similar to bathroom scales look new and interesting, and in the process ended up with the concept of measuring balance. Next, as Miyamoto-san talked about in the first part of this series, we tested a program that would calculate the balance of a person standing on two bathroom scales and display the figure as two percentages on-screen. Everybody was really enjoying this test. It was really difficult keeping the balance at 50-50, which would have of course required zen-like concentration to achieve. We decided that this was the ultimate challenge, and we’ve kept it alive in the final version of Wii Fit as an Easter egg. "
