Cleaning up my past

Hi all.
Looking for some good advice please? I have quite a few outstanding bills on my credit file, dating back from a couple of years to a lot longer. I read a few threads which contridicted each other. Do all debts over 6 years old come off your file? do they have to be satisfied/cleared or do outstanding debts clear as well? if so and they haven't cleared, how do i clear them from my file? also, if debt collection agencies chase you for these debts (different agencies, over the course of the debt) does the 6 year thing start anew or is it still from the date the bill was registered on your credit file?

All in all, i want to start paying the bills off but need to put them in order, if they shouldn't be on my report anymore then i want to prioritise the ones that are on there and clear these. Does that make sense?

I hope someone can help or point me in the right direction.

For credit agreements, the record is removed 6 year from the date the account was defaulted or settled, whichever occurred first.

So an account that has a default registered on it on one date, and is then settled later, will be removed from the record 6 years from the default since that occurred first.

The information below is directly from the Equifax website.

    Link to original info.

    Data Type: Expiry Date

Credit Agreements: 6 years from the date the account was settled, written off or defaulted, whichever occurred first

County Court Judgment/Decree: 6 years from the date of Judgment/Decree

    Bankruptcy
: 6 years from the original registration date

    Individual Voluntary Arrangement
: 6 years from the original registration date

    Cifas
: In all cases except Protective Registration, we are unable to give a date but the CIFAS entry will remain for as long as there is evidence of fraud.
Protective Registration, which is added by an individual to their address to prevent misuse of their personal details, will remain at an address as long as the individual continues to subscribe to the service.

Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML): 6 years from the date of repossession.

Gone Away Information Network (GAIN): 6 years from the original registration date

Administration Order: 6 years from the date of order, even if paid in full
