Maybe I should have made it clear that I was talking about an actual installation that is generating payments in line with the calculator. A double-check against the Energy Savings Trust calculator confirms that the system should pay for itself in just over 7 years.

As regards cleaning the panels, I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to do that myself!
    Hi

I find the EST calculator a little .... let's say, simplistic. Try the reuk calculator you mentioned earlier in this thread, it's nowhere near as good as building a spreadsheet model yourself but it's better than most .....

Check out post #13 on this thread, it'll give a pretty good idea what to expect if you don't want to use the reuk calculator and post your variables ..... the larger the array the less you will pay per kWp installed due to spreading the cost of items such as the scaffolding over more generating capacity, therefore systems sized at around 4kWp will generally have a better payback than smaller ones ...... therefore smaller arrays will normally payback over a longer period ....

Hi, we offer a nationwide solar pv service, full design, installation and commissioning. If anyone wants to discuss specifics please get in touch.
    Hi

What equipment do you use for your standard offering & can you give list prices for various sized installations ? (subject to survey results of course)

... if not, why not ?

Has anything been in the news about this recently?
I just called a company for another Solar PV quote and they said "I don't know if you have seen the press this weekend?" in a kind of negative way and didn't elaborate when I said no. Have looked at a few news sites and can't find anything in particular.

  • £14,700 for 12 sharp 180s system is a rip off
you can get much lower pricing sharp in low/mid pricing
even top end high effciency modules like sanyo & solarworld
should be in the region of £11-12K
£14,700 will get top end 4kwp system

i have a quote for 12 Sharp panels with an inverter kicking in at 125V ( many don't kick in untill you start producing 200V ) giving a peak output of 2.16 Kw
    my SAP Calculations are

    number of panels 12

    panel output 180 watts

peak system output 2.6 Kw (number of panels X panel output = watts divided by 1000 to = Kw)

    solar input factor 1200

    KWh/year 2592 ( system output X input factor)

    orientation factor 93%

    shading 1

    SAP calculation 2410

i have other quotes ( upto £14,700 for same/simular system ) but the they all seem to come up with different figures for the solar input why the discrepancies? on this quote i will have paid for the system in 7.08 years. on other sites using the same installation but their solar input figures it will be 7.5 years.:j

These figures on solar panels never make any sense to me. How many units max and estimated would your £8500
    setup produce in one year?

If it produced ALL the electric i needed it would still take over 14 years to pay for itself. Which i presume it wouldnt.

Payback in 7 years? Thats £1200 a year? What are your electric bills like???

    Google "Feed in tariff"

I googled, and solar still doesn't make any sense to me.

It's either a good method of electricity generation, or not a good method. Simply taking money away from all electricity users and giving it to those users who have solar panels doesn't alter that fact.

BTW, solar is a rediculous and incredibly expensive method of generating electricity in the UK. Worse still, I have to pay for other's pv generation whether I like it or not.
