Credit Search - 'Money Laundering Product'

Just run a credit search on a site called annuacreditreport and it shows that a credit search has been performed by the Halifax for 'Money Laundering Product'. Can anyone suggest what this may or may not be about?

I'm not happy about anything saying 'money laundering' appearing on any aspect of my credit file! Having said that, everything else is ok with no CIFAS or linked addresses even appearing.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

  • Anyone? I take it my next letter should be to their Data Protection Officer to complain?

  • I'm guessing that would be some kind of credit check done by Halifax as part of their money laundering prevention policy. I'd give them a call to see what's going on. I take it you have an account with them?

Also check with the Credit Reference Agency the search was conducted on, rather than annualcreditreport.

They should be able to tell you whether the search will have any adverse effect, and whether it is visible to anyone else checking your report. Some types of searches are only visible to you and the CRA, but not other potential creditors.

  • Cheers for that - I'll check with them as UI don't like the words 'money laundering' appearing next to my records!

I have previously asked them for a copy of my CCA and challenged what they've sent me (as it isn't in my handwriting) and I just wonder if this is as a result of that. That matter has now been passed to Trading Standards.

Either way, nasty letter heading to them.
