Hi All
Am having a bit fo a dilema this year
Ok so i technically have 3 mothers - yes greedy i know but bear with me.
1. My actual mother T who at 44 still has no maternal instinct - she never has, Im her eldest daughter (theres only two of us), but she is much closer to my younger sister. She only seems to bother with me when people mention her grandson so that she can play the part of a doting grandmother (which she has never been) she kicked me out when i was 18 and 5 months pregnant onto the street and despite only living 40 miutes away at most it took her nearly 3 weeks ot come visit her first grandchild adn even then she stayed for half hour. So needless to say we arent close but i still feel obligated as her eldest spawn to get her something for mothers day, after all she did give birth to me.
2. My step mother J. We get on well for step mother nad step daughter, we have a laugh and i like her. Im totally a daddys girl and she makes him very happy which obviously makes me happy and I love my step brother and step sister to bits too. I dont know what to get her though - I tend to always get her smellies and things like that but id like to get her somethign different this year. She was joking on the phone the other night about getting new legs (shes recently started an exercise class and her legs were aching) so as a joke present i was thinking of finding some old tailors dummy legs and giving them to her but i need ideas for an actual thoughtful gift.
3. My mother in law S, shes 53 almost (bf will be payign for this one!) and she took me in when i was pregnant, was my first visitor (besides bf) in hospital, has always helped me out, has been there for me for the last 6 years and Im very thankful and greatful to have her in my life and am so unbelievably glad my son has a grandma like her who i know he can depend on. Again i normally get her smellies but id like something else more personal for her. I did trace her family tree for christmas and as a result two of her long lost brothers got in touch with her who she hasnt seen in almost 40 years, and shes going to visit them both next week now so maybe some ideas around this.
In fact any ideas for the three of them would be extrememly useful as im stumped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's been some good suggestions on here for Mothers Day baskets if you'd like to do that sort of thing, ranging from 'Pamper baskets' to general gift stuff (smellies etc.)
You don't have to treat them all the same just because they have 'Mum' in their title (for want of a better description).
A token pressie for Mother T would be acceptable to her I'm sure (box of chocolates, bunch of flowers)
For the other two, as they mean a lot more to you then they warrant a bit extra thought in my book.
MIL S.......as you've traced her family tree maybe something to do with that would be interesting for her.......either her tree printed out or a book she can complete at her leisure - the family tree sort of book of memories.
Step Mother J............maybe a voucher towards the cost of her excercise class or as I mentioned ..........a 'pamper hamper' , something she could really indulge herself with.
No doubt they'll be loads of other ideas but thats all I can think of for now.
It's never an easy one is it. Good luckMary

hmm... mother number 1 might get a nice plant if it was me buying i think. something very open and general, not too loving and affectionate if you dont want to give her that impression... and pretty cheap!
Can you not do a massive family tree thing for her and get it properly framed in a shop maybe? or maybe get a professional picture done of yourself, bf and sonny jim and have that framed as well?
A few years ago I got some proper pictures done of the kids and had them framed and gave them to all the mothers/grandmothers/godmothers. we got a big set costing around £45-50, which sounds alot. but it cover 2 mothers, 3 grandmothers and 4 godmothers altogether. and if you add up what you woul have spent altogether anyway, its prob not much more...

I think our posts crossed noggin.........lol
Those family tree books are good to do I think. In my haunting of our local charity shops I found two...........one was a 'who do you think you are' family history and the other was Family History Chronicle.
I'm doing my family tree and wanted to do these books so my two sons have one each. You can write all sorts in them, memories, relationships, special occassions etc...makes it more interesting that just names and dates.Mary

Hi have 3 mums too - Mum step-mum, and MIL
MIL is getting egg box daffodils from our 2 yr old boy
My mum has got a HM phone purse made by me, but decorated by my 2 DDs
My step mum normally just gets a card for Mothers day0 -
Hi Sammy
I would concur with what others have said.
For mum no1 just a token gift. Flowers can get them cheaply enough from supermarket.
Stepmum - something a bit more thoughtful. Maybe put a hamper together of her favourite things or a pamper voucher for health studio etc?
MIL - Either framed family tree as suggested or maybe a professional picture of her family herself (husband?), your BF, you and child? You said she has been great with you and loves her grandchild to bits then maybe this is something she would really love and treasureMarch 2006 £15,200+ in debt April £843.64 in debt - Debt Free date Sept 2009
Egg Credit Card - £843.64 5.7%0
