Hoow Do Your Become An International Courier?

Hi there Moneysavers,

A friend has recently told me that you can get a job as an international courier - by which you deliver valuable parcels around the world personally, actually flying out to the countries to give the parcel to the recipient, waiting for a few days, then piclking a parcel up from that country, and taking it somewhere else.

I have always wanted to travel and thought this would give me the ideal opportunity, im assuming that the courier agency pays for all your transport and living cost when on a delivery. I thought I'd ask you, the experts, to shed some light on this idea, has anyone ever done it, and how should i go about becomming one. Obviously i would not do this for a long time, I'm a student (over 18) and thought i'd do it in my summer holidays.

thanks to all

even if a scam is cheap enough. I got it for nothing a year or so back and there's precious little useful solid info in it.

Personally I think this is a bit of an urban myth - a bit like relocating cars in the US - yes it happens, but the restrictions and conditions make it not worth while.

It isn't as easy as it sounds - they are going to want regular reliable staff, not a student who will do one trip, who might (not saying you will) botch the job and who they'll never see again.

You are probably going to have to do quite a few local trips to prove your worth before they will let you loose internationally.

I have known people take courier flights, many years ago, it was not uncommon then. Hand luggage only allowed and no living expenses whilst you travelled. I don't know whether things have changed since then but it was certainly possible at that time.

PS, Vehicle relocations in the States were certainly not an urban myth, either. I have very clear memories of driving a matchbox shaped Fiat from San Fransisco to New York. But since then? Again, maybe things have changed ....

    Hi,
My mate used to do this regularly but has now stopped. It used to be paid well but agencies have lots of people wanting to do it nowadays. They usually start you off with short flights jobs and give the longer ones to couriers that have done it a while as a reward. They usually pay most or all of the cheapest flight ticket only - no hotel costs or anything else I'm afraid. Good way to travel free or very cheap but not a living I'm afraid.

Meant to add that most courier agencies require a registeration fee which you get back after your first successful delivery. All most payout only after you deliver so you'll need purchase the flight perhaps on a credit card.
  • about 11 years ago I took a flight with BA as a courier, I did this direct with BA, not sure if they still do this.

I remember a few years ago my brother was asked to do 'hand carriage' work for his company on a couple of occasions, customers desperately needed some items to get to a destination, and paid a fortune to the company for it. He got Overtime from work for all the hours he was travelling.

Random items as well, 1 was a box of screws for Pittsburgh, another was a box of lottery cards (Scratchcard type ones) for the Phillipines...

Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!
