    CMC discs have a pretty awful reputation though.

    Actually most CMC aren't that bad, tend to be better than Ritek on the NEC drives and certainly better than Optodisc or ones with fake MID codes.

    TY - Taiyo Yuden, and Mitsubishi/Verbatim tend to be the best, but watch out for fakes.

    Actually most CMC aren't that bad

    Not sure I'd agree, I've always found then to be consistently unreliable. As you suggest, TY are probably the ones to go for.

    using a pioneer 108 & 109 I found that sticking with ritek G05 8x or CMC disks provide the most reliability with very little coasters - TY are also very expensive as well as Verbatim
    almost 50p a disc - ritek and CMC 20p

    Ritek G05 will burn at 12x on the pioneer using official firmware
