They are variously called flash pens, memory sticks, etc. do a search for those terms on this site and you should come up with some good deals.
For her uni work, will she have a machine at home and one at the uni which she will be transferring stuff between? If so, a relatively small size would do. If she is going to use it for long term storage and not have a computer at home, you would need to go for the bigger the better.
