Esporta Membership - Advice needed

I wrote to Esporta November 28th to cancel my membership for the end of the month. They say they didn't receive it until the 4th December and therefore I need to pay an additional months membership (in addition to the ridiculous 3 months they ask for). I've initially told them to go away as it was posted in plenty of time for them to receive it for the end of November but I'm expecting them to come back. Any advice on whether they can do this?

I wouldn't say that writing on the 28th Nov meant there was plenty time for them to recieve it - you did cut it a bit tight.

They might let you off (they are fleecing you for an extra 3 months after all!) but if they come back to you I would try being very nice using the words 'goodwill gesture' and such. Other than that, if you value your credit rating you'll have to cough up. Sorry.

I agree. Writing on the 15th would have been safe, there's no way I'd expect a letter from the 28th to arrive on time. And if it were vital that it did, I'd use guaranteed delivery ;)

About to cancel membership with another gym but will have it in the post tomorrow so that I "only" have the three months to pay

May I suggest using recorded delivery only a little more but worth the peace of mind

    Hey,

I also had problems with Esporta last year! When I signed the contract I was told that I could cancel my membership whenever I'd want and after all it turned out that I had to wait at least one year for my membership to expire and I had to pay every SINGLE month arghhhhhhh!!
Also they took the details of my two bank accounts and although I told them they are allowed to take money only off one of them, unsurprisingly they used to charge the other one every month....
But on the other hand I need to admit that their equipment is excellent and location's brilliant as well...
