Would you bother? I am in the market for a LCD TV but am unsure whether I really should be shelling out 4 grand for a 42 inch one.

Well if that makes you happy and you can afford it why not!
More expensive doesn't mean always better quality.
Technically i can't help i'm afraid.
I'm not nearby to shell you any way ........ just Kidding

I just keep thinking this stuff REALLY doesn't keep it's value - as in if I pay 4,500 quid for one today it'll be worth 3,000 at best in a year!

If you're after the money then "hold off, industry forecasts suggest that by 2007, you'll be able to buy a big-name LCD TV for only 50 percent more than an equivalent size CRT......which, combined with the abundance of hi-def material that will be around by then, should make them very attractive"
