Online criminals are getting smarter and more sophisticated, releasing viruses to steal passwords and identity for financial gain, rather than for notoriety. Computeractive has teamed up with McAfee to offer a year’s subscription to Total Protection 2008 software, worth £60, to 20 competition winners.
The package features protection to secure PCs against threats caused by social networking sites, mobile phones, instant messaging and multimedia usage. This includes Safe Search which will alert you about dangerous sites before you visit by using colour-coded signs. These include red for the most risky, yellow for sites that may contain threats and green for sites that are safe.
Link Checker also detects links sent to instant messaging accounts and will inform you of any potential dangers. Parents who are worried their children may ignore the alerts, can also automatically block infected sites with the password enabled Protected Mode and configure the software to redirect children to a safe page.
The new software has also been designed to prevent interruption while you are watching films or working online deferring scheduled security tasks, including program updates and scans, until a more appropriate time.
Other features include anti-virus, anti-phishing and anti-spyware, a two-way firewall, and System Guards, which watch the PC and warn of specific behaviours that may signal virus, spyware or hacker activity.
For your chance to win one of these bundles answer the question on this page.
