    Maybe it's a rail plus travelcard ?
I live out in Kent and ours is about that but a lot of people use the commmuter coaches instead for about half the price

I was wondering that too - great tip on the commuter coaches, do they take you to a half sensible zone or all the way into the centre?? (not that I can take advantage as a zone 3er but I have freinds that might benefit from it)

Edit - by half sensible zone I mean travel cost wise, not that zones above three aren't sensible lol:rotfl:

£229/month to live on is loads.

If you were on JSA and single/living alone in a flat, you'd have to be paying out your electric/water/TV licence and insurance out of this too as you'd get £59/week.

You can eat very well (including some takeaways and loads of other treats) on £100/month. So you'd still have £129 for other stuff.

Right into the centre. I recently worked at Canary Wharf and every night there would be rows of the buses parked to take commuters back to Kent. I also know of one that goes from Cambridge to the City, I think it drops off somewhere between Bank and Tower Hill.

They are much cheaper than season tickets on trains and tube.

Not sure about West End though.

Greenline coaches are good for all areas of london. I used to travel from sittingbourne to the wharf for £11, it then went on to the strand etc. definately worth a google at and so much more relaxing than the UG, you can actually fall asleep!!! ;-)

Once i've paid off bills and made payments to my credit cards, i regularly have about £250ish for the month, with petrol still to go out of that!

If you assume you've paid off bills/food/living expenses etc, it should give you about £60 a week, and if you're not buying food, that makes it effectively £60 for the wkends! Beer money!

Whereabouts in Essex are you -I've found commuter coach services from various points in Essex to both the West End and City.for example Grays to the city £133 per month and to the West End £153 http://stephensonsofessex.com/soefiles/londonlinkexpress.htm
I'm sure there are other companies too-Google is your friend :)
