xp installed on new computer much newer version. Have found Online Banking by going int Homepage and signing on again. Just need to find Emai8l Account. Only old Icon on starter menu. Found on new version before old computer info was put on.

What do you mean by much newer version? There's only really one version of XP unless it hasn't been updated properly. Do you mean Vista?

  • It is not Vista but looks completely different to original.
  • Different how?

If it's just the background then it probably would do.

You will have to set-up OE on your new computer with your googlemail details again, if the person who built your PC could find your original details then they won't have transfered.

To be honest though if said builder couldn't find your OE details then I'd not hold out much hope for your PC being either reliable of having a valid XP licence
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

I'm not sure what you mean then as there's only either XP Home or XP Pro and they actually look both the same on the surface. There is no "older" XP, there maybe an installed XP that hasn't been updated (but that's lack of security awareness). If it looks different then it must be set to look that way as there aren't different versions of XP.

I was going to mention that, if they couldn't find the OE folder in the docs and settings (which is a relatively simple procedure, http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=597170) then it doesn't really give you much confidence in them.

  • i think the op. means his favourites in internet explorer. and also his old outlook express account emails etc are missing from his new system. and the much newer version would relate to IE
what exactly did you copy onto the memory stick. outlook express can be a pain to copy over but if you still have the old pc i can put the steps on here. ie favourites should be fairly easy.
if i am wrong i'll shut up

That would make more sense. Browser and favourites, whereas we're all trying to figure out operating system and files. As for the OE problem my link should lead to the procedures of where to find the email and how to import them.

Thanks took a while but I thought it was worth it because there was starting to be a deluge of people saying that they didn't know where to begin with backing up. In the ned it was probably less effort than repeating everything again. Wasn't sure what people would think because of course it's just my personal view and opinion on it, which aren't always right ;)

  • I received 1 message on my GMail new computer but since the old computer data added via Memory Stick the Outlook Express Icon which was yellow in the Start Menu was replaced by the Original Blue one which invites me to set up an Account!
