can someone tell me how they find out where a telephone number originates from

I'm sure I saw it on this board but can't find it. Is there a site where you can type in a number and find out where it originates from? Thanks

www.saynoto0870.com is often very useful if the number or company has been listed by users in their database.

    "You can search on 0871, 0870, 0844, 0845, 0800, 0808 or 01/02 numbers" or by company name.

Thanks. I have googled it and it turns out it is some company supposidly a charity. A lot of people have commented on the Whocallsme site about them. So now waiting for them to call back and I'll mention the site, see if I hear from them again.
