Illegal Lending / Loan Sharks

Anyone got any issues or problems with illegal lending / loan sharks?

Recently, the Nottingham Public Protection Team (employed by the government) gave a presentation at North East Derbyshire CAB.

We found this presentation very useful and believe this project may be able to offer genuine advice and support to those who may have problems in this vulnerable area.

This organisation may be able to:
  • offer advice and support
  • refer you to legitimate credit agencies including credit unions
  • investigate complaints
  • prosecute people involved in loan sharking
There are three areas which are covered by the above team, Derby (01332 644 000), Nottingham (0115 851 0351) and Leicester (0116 217 9550). Staff at these offices may be able to give information on similar projects across the country. Their telephone lines are confidential and available 24 hours, 7 days a week. We understand from speaking to them today that there will be a website up and running in the near future.

We will keep you posted and hope that this service may be of some assistance to anyone unfortunate enough to be a victim of this type of activity.

Sounds good - I would be interested to know the 'gist' of the presentation, and if other areas in the UK run similar projects.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
