claiming mileage on paye

in Cutting tax
I work through an agency as a builder; the agency does not pay any mileage or anything else apart from my weekly wage. Next month I’ll be starting a job where I’ll be travel about 500 miles a week to get there and back (100 miles a day). I did read somewhere that you can claim this mileage because the building site is classed as temporary work place because it is under 24 month long. Is there any truth in this story? If so, how do I go about claiming this mileage? Plus how do I go about claiming a flat rate expense for a carpenter. Any help would be great. Many thanks.

The rules apply when your employer pays you mileage. There is more information on the HMRC website. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/eim32000.htm. This will show the amount your employer can pay you without you incurring tax or NI. Not sure how you can talk your employer into paying you mileage in the first place.0
