are these useful, or a kitchen gadet too many?

I am v cautious about meat cooking and if anything tend to overcook as don't want to remotely risk food poisonning to due several family members with chronic health probems.
I was extremely ill last time I got food poisonning from very expensive ham sandwich (that'll teach me). The cafe claimed no fault but sent me a free meal voucher, but I never used it. The meat may have be fine for healthy people, but IMO it's important to be extra careful if your immune system isn't so robust.
Thanx

Think I might get one of those - just starting out cooking proper meat and it'll reassure me that I've actually cooked it properly when I don't know how to tell whether it's cooked or not!! (also good for when I start making food for my baby)0

I have one and absolutely wouldn't be without it. I am not generally a gadget person (no slow cooker, no breadmaker, no electric steamer, no food processor, do it all by hand) but I find this really useful as you can cook steaks to perfection by temperature, chicken is perfect and juicy without being too risky and heating up leftovers or home-made chicken pies is no longer left to guesswork
I find it useful because I don't eat much meat so i have no idea what it is supposed to look or taste like when cooked!0 -
I have the Lakeland one and it's invaluable. As previous poster said, easy to see if meat is done. I can also see if chicken is cooked without cutting into pieces. I also used it to check the temperature of my new oven, to heat milk for starting yoghurt quickly, checking temperature of fridge.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. My missus thinks my "meat probe" is essential, oh yes.553780080

At that price, I'd snap one up. Definitely worth having.:wave:0

I have a Salter probe thingy that stays in the oven the whole time.
Very handy for cooking things like pork Although I don't 'need' it to cook I end up using it with all meats I roast as it's so handy.0
