"How much do Oxfam sell secondhand garments for? Would it not be better for M&S to donate this money to Oxfam instead? Surely Oxfam would raise more money if they did. I’m not saying people shouldn’t take advantage of this but to me this doesn’t seem to add up. "
The idea is to recycle your old clothes and help Oxfam at the same time. Less land fill etc.0 -
I would imagine they would sell the garment from anywhere between £2 for a vest top to £10 or more for a suit.
M&S will be benfiting because they are giving you £5 off but you need to spend £30 anyway and it's making them look good by supporting oxfam.
Oxfam will be benefitting as it's getting people to donate things who might otherwise not donate or might donate elsewhere. No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
I agree with your second statement firepoppy & fred_quimby’s too but regarding M&S I don’t personally think that they should be trying to benefit from this. After all Oxfam is a charity and surely this shouldn’t be a business acquisition. And I still think it would be better if M&S donated the money instead.
Anyway I’ve made my point and wont go on about this anymore as I don’t want to clog this thread any further.0 -
I've nominated you for post of the month because although it may be moneysaving, it's also helping Oxfam as well as helping the environment.
Thanks Rose!

I work as a volunteer for Oxfam...
If you donate any M&S clothing item in good condition (you only need to donate one item) then you will recieve a £5 M&S voucher (for use on a £35 spend) and this promotion will run through February. Just let the cashier know that the item you're donating is from M&S
You can then take your voucher to M&S and use for clothes, household & beauty.

Oh - sorry, I got rather excited at first glance.... I thought it said a £5 voucher for S&M ...
I have no oxfam near me
I usually send my stuff to Shelter.0 -
On the oxfam website it clearly states "Donate an item of M&S-labelled clothing to Oxfam, and get £5 off your next M&S purchase of £35 or more*. Give your clothes a second life and help end poverty with Oxfam.
* On clothing, homeware or beauty products.
Notice the small asterix - other products and goods are excluded.0
