Antojitos are the Mexican version of Spanish tapas. Lots of little nibbly things which would be ideal for a party buffet. Have a look on the net for recipes.
Tequila based cocktails especially margaritas.
Pinatas are mexican. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Margaritas!
And food wise fajitas would be super easy - fry up some chicken strips in spices, some mixed onions and peppers, have salsa, sour cream and guacamole on the table, grated cheese and tortillas and everyone can help themselves.
You can buy large packs of 20-30 tortillas at Asian supermarkets for quite cheap.
A big fruit salad for dessert with pineapple and other tropical fruits would be good and simple, or there's a type of Mexican cookie that I don't remember the name of.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

Definately go for the pinata ! We've had one at dd's birthday party for the last couple of years and it's been great fun. Only thing to think about though is how you're going to hang it. If it's outside then you're ok with hitting it with the stick - we either hang it from the washing line or the kids swing frame. If it's inside - I'd probably got for one that has strings that you can pull.So little money - so much time :mad:0

Make a music CD of Mexican sounding songs - I'll start you off with "Tequila" by terrorvision and "Speedy Gonzalas" by Pat Boone. I also served for dessert at my mexican party - Vanilla Ice cream, with Khalua and dessicated co!!!!. I had this at a Mexican Restaurant and it was delicious and very easy to prepare. Also, everyone had to wear a poncho!!!0

Hi
I did a mexican themed 50th for my brother, all the men wore ponchos and sombreros and the women wore gypsy skirts, fishnets, roses in hair etc.
I bought some large courgettes and stuck cocktail sticks in them then put them in old washed bean cans and they looked just like cacti
I used an old bright orange throw as a table cloth and served nachos, fajitas, chilli etc. We cut a frame out of cardboard in the shape of a 'wanted' sign and put it over a mirror in the hall. My son made some swinging bar doors out of cardboard and we used drawing pins to attatch them to a door frame. Loads of fairy light, candles and chillies also help set the scene.
You can also get old cardboard boxes and make signs to hang over doorways etc. that say things like old boot hill cemeterary, cantina etc.
We had a great night and played mexican music that including the theme fron Good the bad and the ugly as guests arrived!
hope this helps you0 -
