I'm currently assistant manager in a charity shop working 14 hours a week. I love my job and don't want to leave it but I need more money so I'm going to try to get another job of about 20 hours a week too.
My only other previous job was also working in a shop, this time a health food shop, for 7 years, originally as a sales assistant and then as a supervisor.
I don't think i would be any good at being a waitress and the idea of being a cleaner doesn't sound very nice to me! I have no experience working on a bar and I'd rather not if I can avoid it.
I will apply for other retail work but I wonder if perhaps I should apply for office jobs too. All my friends worked in telesales when I was a teenager and they never stayed that long as they hated it but they all got paid a lot more than me so perhaps I should try that? I'm going to be living off the money from my first job and use the second job to pay off my debts so if I really, really hated it I could quit it.
I don't want a job that is too stressful. My previous job I hated as I was often taken advantage of by my superiors. I had to go in early and stay late and I put in a hour of unpaid overtime most days. I also had to regularlly put some of my money in the till to make it right if it was wrong.
I am good at getting on with people and I like talking to customers. I am good at maths and English. I have no formal IT qualification but I did do some at school and college and can use most programmes. I am also a fast learner.

I think the first thing is do a CV. Think about what you do at present and what you could offer. Maybe sign up with a job agencey and see if it bears any fruit on the type of job you are looking for.If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.0

Thank you. I have a CV that I wrote last year so I will update it a bit. Should I aim it towards a particular type of work? Is it normal to have an objective at the top of the CV? Some sites advise you to do this but it seems weird to me.No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20

Why not go to college and update your qualifications? Try something with a broad course syllabus such as social science and see if that would suit you to learn and develop.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Have you thought about approaching your area manager to see if any other stores in your area are looking for paid staff? I know when I worked for a charity shop there was always asst and manager jobs going in various stores around my area. That way its doing something you enjoy, it will be seen as being very willing by the upper management and you dont have to learn (many) new things (plus already working for them means so long as the hours fit, you're a shoe in for the job).
 Just a thought.:A:A:A:A:A:A0

It's always a good idea to keep your CV up-to-date.
The "objective" bit seems a bit of a waste of space to me - and you would always need to keep it in line with whatever job you were applying for. Though you might be happy with a number of different jobs, their requirements could be different and therefore taking a CV to an agency which was highly geared towards one job might not help with others.0

I can't afford to go back to college right now. I just want another part time job to earn some more money then I want to go back to college in septemeber to do a year of maths so I can go to uni to do a maths degree in september 2009.
I was thinking of applying for jobs as a carer. Is there a good way to go about this? Do you need any special qualifications? No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20
