DMP and barclays/goldfish takeover

Hi all,

been a long time since I have posted, but wanted a quick bit of advice as payplan are not available at weekends!

I have recently noticed in some posts on the credit card forum that Barclays have taken over Goldfish (they currently run my morgan stanley credit card debt since ms took them over for their credit card services).

I have a full current account with Barclays as it was a bank I didn't have any debt with and I have been with them for about 10 years (originally a woolwich account). My concern is now that Barclays are taking over goldfish and hence my debt with morgan stanley, should I now look into changing my bank account for a basic account with another bank???

Any advice greatly appreciated especially if people are realising they are in the same situation! Im feeling like I take one step forward and two back at the moment!!!!
debt April 2007:

Link Financial £6486.79
MSDW £4915.45
Natwest Loan £30651.43
Tesco £3824.09

Total debt.... a staggering £45877.76, but reducing

Debt free date June 2013 (a long way off and counting...)

  • Hi desperatelyinthered, how are you servicing the debt at present? Are you on a dmp or iva or are you paying the mininum? As long as you are on a payment plan and keeping up with payment i wouldnt see that barclays would take money from your current account. However i am not saying they wont. Have you got any more info on the debt?
  • Hi desperatelyinthered,
I would think that the Barclays take over administratively will take a little time to put in to place. However,
I would not trust Barclays or any of the banks not to take advantage of excess funds in the current account.
I would open a new account with a bank you do not owe money too in case they clean your existing account out and leave you in deep trouble.
