Problem with main beam on '04 Focus 1.5

Hi

Neither of the lamps that take the H1 bulb (main beam) work. They are the bulbs nearest the indicators. The blue light fails to come on on the dash. I've replaced the bulbs and 10 amp fuses without any luck.

I take it that it doesn't matter which way the cables are reconnected to the bulbs?

I'd be very grateful for any advice.

Thank you.

Clean and rough up edges with some sandpaper, clean contacts bulb and fitting. Ensure it is earthed sufficiently
  • maybe the switch is faulty.

    maybe the switch is faulty.

A short history if this helps...

The passenger bulb blew as I turned the lights on one evening. Having read that it's a pig to change the bulb on the passenger side, the next day I decided to familiarise myself with the layout of the driver side bulb.

I wiggled the connector but it was stiff so I gave up until I had more time. It was then that I noticed this bulb had also gone. Both bulbs still have their filament intact.

It may be a coincidence, but I've had to replace one of the big H7 bulbs today, but the filament had definitely gone on this one.

Is the switch expensive to replace?

Got one bulb working...I suspect it's a broken wire on the earth lead.
  • it is quite tight at the passenger side, but not immpossible, have a good look and make sure the bulbs are seated properly and the connections are on properly, remember if you are changing these bulbs never handle the glass part of the bulb, the oil from your skin can cause the bulb to burn hotter and burn out very quickly.
