I would suggest fly. its cheaper (normally) but depends on your reason for going and what you want / need to do while visiting.

Travelling round isn't bad. As above depends what you need to do / where you need to go. If your only visiting for a day or two I think it would be daft to bring the car, were as if it was a couple a weeks or more it might be a good idea. Major expense is the ferry crossing. most expensive 15 miles my car's ever done.
  • fly. A city break will be fine on foot. There are city sight seeing tours to get the gist of the city. It is all quite compact and really looking well at present. The Belfast Welcome Centre is right in the city centre- opposite the city hall and will give you loads of ideas. A visit to the Crown Bar a dander up past Queens and through Botanic Gardens and catch some food on the Lisburn Road... great. We have all the usual shops of any big city - and plenty of originals. Loads of art galleries and beautiful archieture...give it a go.

Beat me to it! Noticed a sight seeing bus yesterday full on top (open) no one inside!

May want to take in the Belfast Eye

Fly don't waste time looking at maps etc.

  • Here's the official tourism link for you

  • You could think about train/ferry without the car...just saying cos it's a lovely run to stranraer :)

personally i think you'd be mad to take a car unless you want to do a bit of touring around NI, if you're focused on Belfast it's like most cities - much pleasanter to walk than to drive.

Hope you have a nice time.

As I said above. It all depends why/what your visiting for. but I do agree with all the others. If you can get a cheap flight Would be much cheaper. I live near Newcastle now (NE England 1) but travel home (N.I.) several times a year. Easyjet kicks Stena's !!! on price.

    30 - 60 min flight for £10 - £30 or a 4 hour drive then a £100+ ferry ticket

But has the OP come back to see response?
  • There is always the coach option. I used to use Ulsterbus Travel to go to Edinburgh and it cost about £30 return. There is probably a Scottish equivalent and they pick you up in Belfast, take you to the Stena boat, then drop you off in Edinburgh/Glasgow. I would assume that they do it the other way round too. Try googling Ulsterbus Travel for the number.
