Need some advise on quantity of food

Hi there,

long time lurker, occassional poster hoping to pick the brains of you old stylers.

I'm having a party tomorrow night and doing food etc for about 25, just cocktail sandwiches and the like. But i also want to do a chicken tikka masala for later in the night when it will just be close friends left, probably about 8-10 people at most.

my plan is to buy an extra large cooked chicken which says on it feeds 5-6. This normally does a Sunday lunch for 4 of us and then a large tikka masala for 2 so that gives an idea of size.

Do you think that will be enough chicken for 8-10 people(bearing in mind they will have had cocktail sausages etc earlier) or would i be better off to get 2 chickens. not overly worried about having too much as can freeze leftovers anyway but don't want to do 2 if i really won't need them.

Any advice much appreciated.

I'd go for 2.. peole tend to eat more if others are still eating and if they've had a few drinks and them they tend to also go back for more a bit later if it is left available.

I'd have a huge bowl of salad available too, and a bowl of crisps.. cheapy ones.. and maybe a couple of cakes or a tray of mixed buns like eclairs and fairy buns and sponge cakes available for afters too..

  • Well, if they are anything like my friends - I'd definitely get 2! But better to have too much than not enough. As you say, you can freeze it so it won't be wasted.
