Remodelling rings was OH bread and butter.:) The diamonds in your grannies rings maybe 'old' as opposed new cut (head fuzzy at moment so can't remember the names - think it's princess/brilliant cut). The new cuts should show off the diamond better but many people prefer the "old" cut in the right setting.
Old European Cut and Old Miner Cuty, possibly Rose cut.2009 wins: Signed Saxon CD, Solar Torch, Drumsticks, Priest Feast Tix, Watch, Hammerfest tix :beer:0 -

Thanks for your help all. Sorry it's taken me a while to thank you - haven't been on MSE for ages.
We are going to do something very scary but hopefully worth the punt - found out OH is attending a conference in May in Houston, Texas, which is where Whiteflash are based.
They are going to reset our old diamonds (provided we insure them ourselves - not sure how one goes about this) into a bespoke design, with additional diamonds from them. OH has checked up and can go to the factory and everything.
Wish us luck!! If it works out, I'll post a picture.0 -
a bar brooch which is basically cuting the shank in the middle and stretching it out flat
I have a ring of my grandma's which was originally an opal tie-pin given to my grandpa when he was a best man...he had it made into a ring, presumably by doing this process the other way around...and I can still see the join on the back0 -
Hi All,
We also went to the Lanes in Brighton to find our engagement ring but before we went I did a bit of searching on the net and came across Bespoke Diamonds. Alex, the bloke who runs the company spent an hour with us and we left with the perfect ring. I would not hesitate in recommending their services. Check them out at https://www.bespokediamonds.com.

Hi Matt & Vicki,
You could try the online retailer - http://www.weddingrings-direct.com/engagement_rings.php
They have a "Try before you Buy" service which I found useful.
CheersHello,
We have just got engaged and are going shopping for a ring in the morning.
Any tips on decent on-line jewellers
or hints, tips or good shops to visit in Birmingham's jewellery quarter, including how to know how much you can haggle.
Thanks
Matt & Vicki0
