Is there any way of getting free/cheap legal advice? The Citizens Advice Bureau cannot help.
Also, Mickey Mouse is being falsely accused of stealing by his ex-employer, who unfairly dismissed him. The threats of legal action are no longer amusing Mickey Mouse who has never done anything wrong in his life. Who will pay Mickey's legal fees should he need to get a solicitor to fight the allegations?
This is obviously a real problem facing people who are going out of their minds with worry and unable to spend thousands on solicitors. You cannot be liable for legal fees when you're innocent can you?

Check out your phone book and ring round a few,if you don't ring one that can give you 1/2 hour or up to 1 hr free consultation then one will point you in the right direction if you ask........................there will be one in your area who gives this free consultation it's just a matter of finding them , sometimes it is on the adverts themselves in yellow pages.
They will then tell you where you stand and if you can get what used to be legal - aid ,not sure if it still is ..............but you do need to get the right advice .
good luck0 -
You could also look for advice centres other than the CAB, and if you're near a city / large town look for a Law Centre or a Law Shop.
Also ACAS for employment rights. And the union if there's an obvious one, even if Mickey wasn't a member they might advise / help.
But yes you can be liable for legal fees even if you're innocent: if you win the other side may be ordered to pay your costs but it isn't automatic.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Some insurance companies also include free legal advice with their policies, you could check your household/vehicle insurance to see if you have this if in doubt ring the insurance company and ask.Nobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

Thank you for your replies.
It is worrying that the costs are not automatically taken from the innocent party. Anyone can lie to get you to worry and spend your money. Wow. Mickey is not a rich mouse, but comfortable enough (has money instead of house) not to qualify for free legal aid from the places mentioned by Savvy_Sue. After the Tribunal I am very disolusioned (I have no idea how to spell that!) with the legal system.
So we shall be ringing round and get a few freebie consultations from the phonebook.
Another threatening letter came through this morning. Would not wish this on anyone...:wall:0 -
I think you can represent yourself in a Tribunal, but wouldn't recommend it.
You may think legal advice is expensive, but the advice is specialist. In the case of legal proceedings it is important you do get professional legal advice."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
