bt's - the killer question.

have posted on this before.

let me try again.

on-line applications for bt's don't seem to ask the question 'and what is your cred. limit?'.

but twice over the past month I've taken calls from Cap1/mbna both asking this question after I'd applied on-line.

given that 'telling untruths' about your egg c/l is tantamount to fraud (as someone had to point out to me) I'm getting this sinking feeling that follow-
up calls by the lender to ask the killer question may become routine.

in which case, egg stoozers will be sailing close to the legal wind if they give an anything-but-honest answer.

or am I just getting a little paranoid?

  • Oh dear. This sounds a little worrying. After years of allowing the transfer of large 'virtual balances' from Egg to cards like MBNA & Capital One, it sounds like anti-stoozing measures are possibly being enforced.

Maybe the likes of MBNA have finally cottoned on to the fact that Egg Money generally offers a maximum credit limit of somewhere between £5K & £7K, so they're left wondering why you would want to transfer a balance of £19,700 (for example) ??!!

It would be interesting to hear if any other stoozers have also been getting these types of questions.

As an aside, the online route of doing BTs has always been my preferred route, as they effectively circumvent the Customer Services personnel who may have asked questions like this if you were requesting a BT at the other end of a telephone. It's interesting that they're paying more attention to these 'back door' routes now...

  • and the strange thing is..............

when I took the call from Cap1 I told a small porkie about my c/l with egg.

having been put right on this board re the legalities I wrote to Cap1 to cancel appl.

arrived home this p.m to find a Cap1 letter telling me my appl. has been successful and the bt from egg is imminent!

    does anyone understand this???????

p.s as a point of interest: Cap1 letter is dated 12/02. does anyone know how long beforethe bt is actioned?

  • there's more.
having just looked at the 'virgin question' thread beneath this, it's starting to unnerve me.
it seems appl's to virgin online are processed dependent on a phone call to them - by you - confirming your c/l.

I've just had a private email which confirms this.

    If you're referring to...

"I applied, was asked to make the call, did so following day and confirmed limit

...I think this relates to the limit on the new Virgin card, not Egg Money.

I think Virgin (MBNA) want new customers to call them so they can check a few details (read sell you PPI), not quiz you in depth about your finances and limits on other cards you have.

I agree with Yorkshireboy. I applied on line and quoted outstanding balances on cards that I had. I was not asked to ring.

However I did ring to make the BT and confirm DD setup and BT end date etc. Conducted the BT through their Credit Linit dept and not customer services and a large BT was made with no questions asked. This was all within the last couple of weeks.
