do YOU buy used books from Amazon?

HI I really want to buy a book from Amazon, and it has quite a few 'used'. When you go to the list it has 'new' by each of the listed 'used' books. Dont know what that means. But I am unsure whether to. Will it drop to bits? IS it also better in a recycling way to buy used books do you think? What's the catch? Do YOU buy…

but as others have said it is brilliant for text books - although don't forget there are plenty of other second hand booksellers on the net - I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to get my daughter's A level book list at the cheapest price............every book we got was in mint condition and all below the stated price.
