Blisters on hands after pole dancing...

I've recently taken up pole dancing classes and this week was my third week. I have come away with numerous bruises and four blisters on my fingers, on one hand. How can I reduce the chances of this happening again? I mean it really hurts, more than my muscle aches.

  • Hi

I heard from a friend that KY jelly helps you grip the pole so may help reduce the chance of blisters.

You could always use surgical spirit to harden your palms once the blisters have healed. That always worked on my feet when I wore point shoes as a teenager.

Just been watching Bizarre ER on BBC3 and a pole dancer on there recommends chalk on your hands the same way as gymnasts use it on the high beams :)

Oh dear, I don't think this is wise, you'd slip!

Thanks, we use liquid chalk, but I think that's what caused the problem in the first place. I'm going to try without this week.

I was just about to say the same thing lol. Just a thought but would talc be any easier on the hands? Im not sure if its as "sticky" as chalk though or if it too would make u slip
  • I always chalk my hands beforehand. Not the liquid though, the actual chalk dust...I never have a problem :)

One of my ex's (do'h) was a pole-dancer and the girls there used to use chalk dust or talcum powder when they used the pole - they'd always have some moisturiser, like the Norwegian hand formula to use afterwards.
Treat others as you would like to be treated :A
