Colemans spaghetti bolognaise packet sauce

Options
Well, I thought I would be lazy and make a quick spag bol for tea using the 'bish, bash bosh' of Colemans packet sauces well never again!!!!! It was awful!!!! even after trying to improve the flavour with a few more herbs and stuff it was just awful, I was so upset that i had inflicted this onto my DH, even the dog wouldn't eat it!!!!!

I vow NEVER to take the easy option again :o

I think sauces are so easy to make, you don't need to buy a packet. They taste like plastic to me. have you got a fussy dog :rotfl:

once your palate is used to home cooked food, those packet sauces taste soooo salty!
    weaving through the chaos...
  • I must admit to using the Schwartz packet sauces for a chili & bolognese. After using a recipe on here last week, won't be using them again :D
Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker :)
  • I have an elegantly simple trio of recipes in the culinary reference library. The basic one is for Tomato Pasta Sauce. Add minced beef to this for Spag' Bol' sauce. Add red kidney beans and chilli powder to this for Chilli Con Carne.

Just fry off 2 chopped onions and a 2 cloves of chopped garlic in a little olive oil. For SB and CCC add 750g of minced beef* and brown. Add a tin of chopped tomatoes and a teaspoon of dried mixed herbs. For CCC add a tin of red kidney beans and a teaspoon of chilli powder. Cook until reduced. The quantities given should serve 4, with 100g (dry) of pasta or rice per person.

IMHO, even the CCC recipe doesn't take any longer to do than the one on the CCC sauce packet.

PS. * I once even used some price reduced turkey mince with an OXO cube to literally "beef" it up.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
