Waste and the West

Interesting thread, but something of a sweeping generalisation to imply that everyone in the west is wasteful and everyone in the east is thrifty.
I waste nothing, have hens that lay eggs, bake, preserve, grow tomatoes, eat vegetarian half of the week, make soup, make yogurt, and make gifts of unwanted clothes and toys to friends. I know that I'm not alone.

Yes you are very right Penny, and I also think that we should not dismiss all things 'Western' as there are quite a few things here and now that actually help us being thrifty. For example I can preserve a lot more garden produce using the freezer than I could by canning alone. And I wouldn't be so thrilled about making my own bread if I didn' have the breadmaker! I believe it should be a mix to get to the optimum situation for every person."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0
