Recycling drugs that you did not take/no longer use

  • I guess if I was in Africa with limited means and needed the drugs then yes of course its a worthwhile and lifesaving option. I do agree.
However, I was just pointing out our litigious society would have a field day if the practice was common here.
Just think about mrsi for example. It spreads by contact.

I have been sent to houses were people died to take the drugs away for safe disposal (including brompton cocktails), I can recall times when I have literally cleaned the oxygen cylinder in case anything was spread.

My experience of giving is that the more people you go thru, less gets to whoever needs the money/help/drugs etc.
Better that the drugs are made available in this country,if it can be done safely, and seperate aid given to Africa wherever.

Thanks so much for posting this. I actually asked about this on my local Freecycle Cafe site, but wasn't able to find a suitable charity. I have some pain medication that I took just twice because it made me violently ill, but I couldn't bear to just throw it away. However, I was hesitant to give it away on Freecycle, as I don't want to encourage any drug habits, etc. :\

a good idea, but would need to be only unopened packs, surely? if only for hygiene reasons, but also to stop people replacing with placebo's..

If it can be done safely then let the drugs be returned to the NHS.
