Woo hoo! Received a letter months ago about overpaid tax from 2005 filled it in...forgot...postie delivered me a cheque for nearly £600 this morning (nearly kissed him but he was halfway up the street and i was in my pj's!) any way i was wondering what the most tax anyone on here had managed to get back? Not by anything sneaky, just when they have sent you the standard letter about overpaying. It's come just at the right time as i had to quit working this week due to my health and was wondering what i was going to do about money. What's your best unexpected windfall?

I got £200 council tax back last month - we moved house in January 2006 and I had completely forgotten that we would have overpaid (we moved to a different council area) - it took almost 2 years for them to pay me back, but I dont care it was £200 I wasnt expecting! yey!!0

I got £450 back in 2005. I'm a bit of 'tax return' person, because i am from Australia and you have to do a tax return every year, you can either do it yourself or get it done by proper tax people. So im used to having to do them, you can claim for your work, related courses to your job, loss of value of your pc if you used it for a course or your job. You can claim all sorts in Australia.
Hence i check every year against my P60 and in 2005 i over paid due to a mix up with my tax code.
I finally convinced my OH to check and he got £156 back in Dec. I just always use an online tax refund once i get my P60.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Last october, I received about £550 for the current tax year after I got my tax code corrected. Early this week i received a £2167 cheque covering repayment for last tax year and the year before that.
After numerous letter exchanges between tax office and i, i finally got it all back. In total it was just over £2700 extra in to my account.

About £850 - being a teacher, my first job starteed in September but three years in I left to work overseas - didn't know about tax back until I came home and I had over paid for tax in two tax years (September - April - but was charged for a full year and April to August - again - paid tax as if for a pull year employment) - says alot for my pay when I was a young teacher but helped me out - as it all went on my wedding

Not received it yet, but i'm expecting 10K + for using my own car for business miles for the last 6 years. Didn't realise I could claim if i received a fuel card but it so happens that I can! Woohoo!553780080
