Poster Printing?

Hey all,

Firstly, Happy Valentine's day to everyone! :p

I have a number of decent quality digital camera photos that I would like to make into posters (nothing specific in terms of size) and I was wondering whether anyone had any experience of this? Any decent companies that could be recommended?

Ideally they'd maybe be slightly glossy? but its not essential.

Thanks! :T

This is one of the main things you will need to specify to get a good req as it will restrict what presses you can use. eg most digital printers will be able to print on a 320mm x 450mm sheet (see yellow pages or yell.com for a local one), but larger than that you will probably need a wide format printer.

I've used http://www.photobox.co.uk for larger prints of my photos. Never had a problem and turnaround was quick

Just re-read your post, I was assuming you'd still have them in digital format and not already in prints, but if you only have the actual print then I'd check your yellow pages for a local company.

Do you have a university local to you?
They usually have print shops that are much cheaper than their commercial rivals, I get my photos printed onto canvas at the local uni, at a third of the cost of rivals.

thanks very much for your replies. I was actually thinking fairly big in terms of size. roughly speaking, the size approx 20" by 20" obviously that varies depending on the shape of the photo as it were, but that's roughly the size I was thinking.. thanks!

my university doesnt have a print shop specifically, but it does have a printer for A0 and posters suchlike..?

Sounds like your best bet. 20" x 20" is too large for most high street print shops/digital printers, and the places that can do that size will probably only do production runs :(

You could try Kodak http://www.kodakgallery.co.uk/OrderOverview.jsp?UV=223928755670_4276608900233&localeid=en_GB I've used them for photos in the past and they've been great, really quick turnaround, never had anything that size printed though. Says they go up to 24" x 16".
