Redundancy and notice period

if paid notice period for redundancy is 12 weeks, does that mean the actual leaving date of employment is 12 weeks after the redundancy notice is issued, for example if the date of redundancy is 30th April 2007 does this mean the actual leaving date is 22nd July 2007, or is the leaving date 30th April 2007 regardless of the notice period.

If last year someone received a notice of redundancy on 30 April and was still working for that employer 12 weeks later then their actual leaving date was 22 July.
If they left on 30 April and were paid 12 weeks pay in lieu of notice, then they left on 30 April.
So did they work the notice period or were they paid in lieu?0 -
are you talking about the 90 day notice here?
I thought that was just 90 days notice of intention to make people redundant? So if they wanted them to go on 31 December notice would need to be served by 1 October... but then people just get their own individual notice entitlement, is that right?0 -
Perhaps Sher will never come back to clarify what happened back in 2007.0

sorry the dates should have read 2008! The 12 weeks are payment in lieu of notice, but the notice is not expected to be worked. any help would be greatly appreciated!0

If the pay is in lieu of notice that means that it is paid instead of paying for work done in an actual notice period. In that case, the actual day of leaving is the last working day.
However, is there also a redundancy amount to be paid? That is "pay in lieu of notice" of 12 weeks would be because the person was entitled to 12 weeks notice - either they had worked for the employer for more than 12 years or had a position where the standard notice period was that long. If they had worked that long then they would also be entitled to redundancy pay, separate from pay for the notice period.
I think you need to clarify what is being paid in respect of what.
