every 7th one free is not to be sniffed at.
Every 6th one is free, your free cup still has a sticker on it so you've only got a pay for 5 to get a free drink.

I didnt realise you could use them for tea! A friend and I go to McD for a cup of tea for me and coffee for her (cheapest cup of tea in town - 85p), we collect the vouchers and she always gets the freebie! Not any more...................................... We do sit and look to see if anyone has left a coffee cup out so we can womble the stickers, but our McD is so clean the staff get rid of any rubbish really quickly, and I haven't got the nerve to actually go into one of their bins!!

I know this is an old thread, but for anyone who has a use for these stickers (I think they are a great idea as I like mac coffee and use a lot) there are several people selling them on Ebay - they go for about half price.

Anyway, if you have 36 stickers, how many free cups of coffeee will you receive? The answer of course is 7 not six, as you can obtain the seventh cup with the stickers from the free cups.

This little puzzle is actually an update of a question that was in the schoolbook for youngsters studying for the 11+ exam fifty years ago. The question read something like:

A tramp rolls cigarettes with dog-ends that he finds in the street. He makes one cigarette from 7 dog-end. If he finds 49 dog-ends, how many cigs can he make?
It was expected that the 11+ ability child would give the correct answer....8 as he can roll the 8th cig with his own cig ends!

Somehow I don't think this question would make it into the textbooks these days.

Thanks to Sassers above for the delightful word "wombling". I thought it was just me who wombled! Must send this word to the OED for their next update.

My current womble is at Netto. 40 stamps (one for every £5 spent) gives you a free cuddly dog (really good quality) .......I spend a fiver and then look at the till-person (with plaintive eyes and trying to look as cuddly as the illustration of said cuddly dog!) and say "May I have the stamp please as I am saving them for a poor pensioner". Usually the young person gives me a few extra! I slowly pack my possessions, six cans of stout and a jar of mustard, whilst furtively looking for a few discarded stamps.
Tonight was a good 'un. Three stamps from the till and five womblers!:D

  • Just so you are all aware, it is discretionary but i used 2 work in a Mcdonalds and we had a few people come in through the drive through in the mornings who just asked for a refill coffee and we did it free. Just tell them that you were told that the refills were free in the other Mcdonalds.

Worth a try if you can get away with it.
  • i dont know if this is something obvious. but when i first started collecting the stickers, i thought i could only get regular drinks. well recently when i have asked for the 'free' one to be a large hot drink, they have given it me without question.

I collect these stickers and stick them to the protective case for my mobile until I have 6. Usually when I'm finishing my coffee 2 or 3 people have asked me if I collect them or not!!!
