Oven troubles.

Options
Hi,
Can anyone help me please. I have a fan assisted electric oven which was already installed when we moved into this house. Previously, I had a gas oven. My problem is that this oven smokes really badly. It seems that when cooking fat is spitting up onto the unprotected element then burning. I don't know what to do about this but it is putting me off using the oven as the whole downstairs fills with smoke, all our clothes and hair smell of it and it really makes your eyes water. Should there be some kind of guard over the element or is there some product that will clean it off and prevent grease sticking to it? I'm at a loss and would be very grateful for any help whatsoever. Thank you.
P.S. Happy Valentines Day to all :heartsmil

That sounds like you are using the grill at the same time. Mine has icons on the dial. One of them has a fan in the middle which is the one I use. The one with the line on the top and the fan in the middle, this turns the grill on also.
  • This happened to me with my last oven - it had the element on the top and when it got mucky, it'd fill the house with really acrid smoke. I found that cleaning the oven regularly was the best way to go - Oven Pride was expensive, but good. The Mr Muscle foam worked too, but it stinks and you have to be so careful when you use it. Also, be careful with this if the oven is REALLY dirty - when I moved into my house and cleaned the oven, I sprayed it and left it and came back to a HUGE puddle of what looked like black treacle all under the oven, all of the goo had leaked out and it was not pretty!

If the oven's that bad, it might be worthwhile getting someone in to clean it, just for the first time. It's expensive, but they clean it far better than most of the stuff you can buy.
  • Another thing to do is use a covered roaster tin to prevent splashes once you have cleaned it to keep this down.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
