Strange Search on Experian

Options
Not quite sure where to post this but I'm sure someone'll move it if it's in the wrong place.

Anyway, I was doing a quick credit check on Experian (CreditExpert.co.uk) as I've been keeping tags on my debts for the last year, after getting a dodgy debt cllection cmpany come to me with a totally bogus debt. They never succeeded luckily as i could prove the debt had never existed.

There's now an 'unrecorded enquiry' showing as a search that took place on 14/2/05 - wasn't there last month?? by a company called Stevens Drake, a quick google shows them to be a solicitors firm.

Would it be worth my while contacting them to see why they searched my credit file?? I know I haven't got ay unresolved debts outstanding - the largest I have is a debt from Natwest for £600 that I've been paying off - forget to pay it off when I moved house a few years ago - whoops!!. Got a couple of credit cards that I haven't got any problems with and that's it.

I also haven't applied for any credit recently, so why would a solicitors firm be investigating my credit rating - puzzled now.

  • An unrecorded enquiry would NOT show up on a search made for credit by another organization, therefore i would not be concerned about it. However for your piece of mind why not contact these solicitors and ask why they did the search, but as i said an unrecorded enquiry will not affect your credit rating at all, you can see it but a credit search cant.

I use Experian for money laundering checks and I believe they show up as unrecorded enquiries. Can't see why a solicitor you don't know would do one of those and there is a data protection requirement before one can be done legally (a data protection statement needs to have been issued).
