A recipe (for a mild curry with yoghurt) specifies 2 red chillies (deseeded). How much hot chilli powder is equivalent to this?

This is a hard one as different chillies and chiili powders have different heats. I would start with 1/2 a teaspoon. You can add more to make it hotter if need be.0

Noted with thanks. To make things even more difficult, the recipe is for 4 servings, so I will probably be halving the quantities as well. I think my measuring spoons go down to a ¼ of a teaspoon. Even a mild or Korma curry needs a bit of a "zip" to it.
PS. If even this little is still too much, I suppose I could always borrow one of those little stainless steel spatulas they use for measuring out chemicals from one of the school science lab's! Heston Blumenthal or what? The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I normally add some when cooking, then add some hot pepper sauce if it isn't sufficiently spicy.... or quite often dh & ds add it at the table, as they like stuff hotter than I do!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
